Around 10 million people around the world are living with Parkinson’s, a degenerative disease that affects the brain.
45% of all Parkinson’s patients experience gait freeze, a condition that renders spontaneous walking all but impossible. Gait freeze is embarrassing, frustrating and debilitating. It also doubles the sufferer’s likelihood of falls and the associated risk of serious injury.
GaitThaw is a simple, elegant and practical solution to the problem of gait freezing that underpins the creation of Cotswold Health Technology. The GaitThaw technology has completed a successful clinical evaluation and, subject to securing funding, will be launched in the UK and Europe in 2021.
The GaitThaw technology was developed by team of researchers and engineers from the University of Oxford. Together with an experienced technology entrepreneur and Oxford University Innovation, the team is spinning out Cotswold Health Technology to commercialise the GaitThaw product and develop new active wearable medical devices.
